Future tense

Future tense

Return to index

Used for actions that will happen in the future.

The future tense is formed from the present tense of werden + the infinitive of the verb you are using. For example, here is the future tense of trinken:

ich werde trinken
du wirst trinken
er/sie/es/man wird trinken
Sie werden trinken
wir werden trinken
ihr werdet trinken
sie werden trinken

The future tense is not used as frequently in German as it is in English. The present tense is often used if the rest of the sentence indicates that the action is happening in the future. The future tense is used when it involves a prediction or an intention.
