1. Re: 3 Minute Presentation!
From Mike Wills
Maria,
The topic for the presentation depends on the the type of job you are applying for and what the recruiters are using the presentation for.
If you are applying for a trainer's job then you will want to teach some facts or give a demonstration of a skill - although in three minutes you won't be able to coach any skills. Choose a topic or a skill that you are familiar with - e.g. origami, car mechanics, folding a napkin, flower arranging etc - the more enthusiastic you are about a subject, the better it will be. During the presentation/demonstration you can't go far wrong with the 'Army School of Presentation':
- Tell 'em what you're goin' to tell/show 'em
- Tell/show 'em
- Tell 'em what you've told/shown 'em
If the recruiters are using the presentation to assess you suitability for other kinds of role, then remember they are probably looking for someone to solve a problem for them. A risky strategy - although is does work with the right kind of recruiters - is to do your homework on the company, determine what their problems are and present how you can be a part of the solution. Otherwise, present a problem (similar to the company's problems) that you have solved in the past. Describe:
- The situation
- What needed to be done
- What was done
- How it all turned out
If your are considering using OHPs, remember that you can only cover one, very simple slide in three minute. I hope the presentation goes very well for you. Here are some other links that you might find useful:
