It's difficult to give specific guidance without knowing the state of your current training process. For many organisations, getting the basic training process right would be a huge innovation - though senior manages might not find this exciting enough. A complete explanation of the training process is given in my book Managing the Training Process.

If your basic training process is sound, the next step would be to check out your company's approach training. You can do this by comparing it with the philosophies to be found in the 7 Secrets of Successful Training. More advanced ideas would be to introduce coaching, mentoring, double-loop learning and the learning organisation.

A general approach would be to consult all those who have a stake in the training process to identify the current state and what needs to be improved. Strategies for implementing the needed improvements become your innovations.

It’s a KPO, so not very interactive work with the client except for few people. I would say the training process is well defined here, but I’d still reinforce that there is some thing which is lacking because of which the Training department doesn’t have any visibility. People are not interested in attending training though whatever trainings they attend, the feedback we normally get is very good. So its kind of motivation for the training which is very low and the kind of interest and eagerness they should have in attending trainings is not there at all. So I need a piece of advice, for organizing some kind of special event or kind of 'Training Month' where people are thoroughly involved in trainings also enjoying it at the same time. If this makes sense then what all activities can we organize or any other advice from guys there which might just give me a start.

One of the causes of lack of interest in training is that training is often seen as an 'add on' to the 'real' business: training is not seen as work - and work is not seen to be training.

Training needs to be truly integrated into the business (see 'The Process of Training').

Rather than having a training month, I would have a business planning event planned to coincide with the start of the business planning cycle. It would have three phases:

1. Presentation and exhibition of the business objectives.

2. Preparation of team and individual objectives and development needs which are linked to the business objectives

3. An exhibition of available training and development resources. Include external providers such as consultants, universities, business schools and colleges as well as your own offerings.

People will then be able to sign up for training and development activities which they can see clearly supports the business as a whole.
