Used for actions that have been completed in the past.
Most verbs form the perfect with the present tense of haben and the past participle of the verb. Some verbs (and all verbs of movement) use sein instead of haben.
The past participle is usually formed by adding the prefix ge- and the suffix -t to the stem of the verb. If the stem ends in t, the suffix -et is used. Some verbs use the suffix -en.
Ich habe gewohnt
Wir sind gestartet
Er ist gekommen
There are quite a few irregular verbs where the vowell changes, e.g. helfen - geholfen, gehen - gegangen.
Separable verbs get back together:
Ich habe den letzen Reisescheck eingelöst.
